The airliner jet engine has a powerful case to be the icon of our age. Every smart phone has a photo showing a wing, it’s engine, and a cloudscape beyond.

We sit, passive, buckled in to our seats as this growling, howling genii (in the service of ecstasy) grants us our wish to escape the everyday. Into it’s gaping mouth disappear huge volumes of air, thrusting us with a hard shove in the back into the sky on a roaring fountain of super heated gas.

As this fury subsides and the cabin levels out, a post climactic afterglow descends, each passenger, gazing down upon the clouds, now a minor god.
